Thanks to SF Beer Week and everyone who participated — thank you beer lovers, breweries, bars, restaurants, stores and sponsors! — we’ve already establishing that 2016 is going to be a stellar year for craft beer in San Francisco. Over 800 craft beer events at nearly 300 venues went down throughout the Bay Area over the 10 days that are SF Beer Week. And the 2016 calendar shows little signs of letting up in delivering amazing local craft beer experiences.

Now for February comes Strong Beer Month, an annual celebration of hefty brews held by 21st Amendment Brewery and Magnolia Brewing Co. Each venue is pouring six high-octane beers, providing rock-inspired concert ‘tickets’ for checking off each as you drink them. The range of styles is impressive, but the common denominator is the strength of what’s being poured — all brews are nearly or well over 9% ABV (alcohol by volume).

Imperials abound, like 21A’s Mighty Quinn (imperial IPA), Red Titan (imperial red ale) and Manu’s Morning (bourbon-oaken imperial coffee stout), and Magnolia’s Promised Land (imperial IPA), Bring It On Home (imperial K├Âlsch) and Smokestack Lightning (imperial stout), as do traditionally strong styles, like Magnolia’s Old Thunderpussy barley wine and 21A’s unique Blind Lust (Belgian-style strong ale with raspberries).

Plan your visits over the next four weeks (you don’t want to be downing these in a single sitting!), and start marking off your strong beer conquests.

Next stay tuned for the March launch of the Drink SF Beer Shuttle, being rolled out as part of the San Francisco Brewers Guild’s monthly Meet the Brewers night. We’ll have more news on this soon, but as a teaser, you can check out the initial routes for March, April and May here.

So while SF Beer Week may be in the books, the San Francisco Brewers Guild and all the participating bars, breweries, and restaurants who made those 10 days so special will no doubt be delivering great craft beer experiences all year long, be they at breweries, special tappings, beer dinners, meet the brewer nights, festivals and more. Cheers to 2016.
