Placed-based beers are a real thing — the concept is simple: how can you make a beer using hyper-local, wild ingredients, ingredients found and foraged from the natural landscape immediately around you?

A collaboration between local brewers, Beers Made By Walking, and Sutro Stewards provides a great exploration of this concept. Sutro Stewards led the public and 18 brewers on hikes throughout SF’s Mount Sutro, during which time various native plants were identified.

Now the beers inspired by this Sutro stroll are being tapped on Sunday, November 13 at Standard Deviant Brewing, itself a brewery new to the SF landscape, located at 280 14th Street.

Providing true brewing inspiration, this event is when you can sample these unique and local craft brews showcasing what Bay Area landscapes have to offer. There will be several beers tapped — so far these four of 16+ beers have been announced, with more to come soon:

Laughing Monk Brewing — Blackberry Devil’s Horde
Barrel aged Belgian Imperial Stout with wild blackberries

“Stovetop Homebrewster” aka Gail Ann Williams — Arctostaff
Manzanita sour with sun dried, tree-ripened manzanita berries

ThirstyBear Organic Brewery — Coastal IPA
Envision walking along the coast of the Marin Headlands after a morning fog…Brewed with organic Pale malt to achieve the color of the Golden State and hopped with organic Magnum, Bravo, Centennial and Chinook hops. The hop flavors and bitterness are complemented by mugwort and the hop aromas are complemented by yarrow and sage.

Triple Voodoo Brewery — Take a Hike
Wheat beer with two types of wheat, a carefully selected Belgian yeast and infused with locally foraged sagebrush
