ThirstyBear Brewing Co. is San Francisco’s oldest brewpub, its first and only certified organic brewery and San Francisco’s only certified Green Business that is a brewery-restaurant. The idea of brewing fresh, handcrafted beers with authentic Spanish cuisine in a setting where sustainability is the mantra, is the creation of Ron Silberstein, a former immigration attorney turned brewmaster-restaurant owner. ThirstyBear Brewing Co. served our first beers paired with Spanish tapas on September 13, 1996.
Head Brewer Brenden Dobel was trained at Doemens Brewing Academy in Munich, Germany. Dobel is a 17- year veteran of the Bay Area craft beer scene and brews all organic, hand-crafted beers including ales, lagers, Belgium style ales, cask conditioned ales and barrel aged beers. ThirstyBear serves a minimum of 9 draft beers and one cask-conditioned ale. We offer a full bar with artisan cocktails, an extensive selection of single malt scotches, a variety of delicious Spanish brandies, and exceptional wines from California and Spain. Beer connoisseurs, foodies, wine and cocktail lovers have one place to go for a great meal, tapas, and artisan drinks. ThirstyBear Brewing Co. strives hard to blend local with the universal, the traditional with the new, all while protecting and sustaining our world’s limited and fragile resources.
The Brewery and Restaurant are housed in a beautiful historic brick building directly across the street from the Moscone Center, the Yerba Buena Center for the Performing Arts and the SFMOMA. At ThirstyBear, Executive Chef Laurance Gordon works with numerous local farmers, artisan bakers, cheese makers and incorporates the finest specialty ingredients from Spain, to create a truly unique farm to table Spanish style cuisine. The restaurant is the perhaps the only brewpub in the United States to pair Spanish style tapas and paellas with its handcrafted beers.
