With football looming large and SF Beer Week approaching, members of the San Francisco Brewers Guild drew some lines:

Brewers south of Market St. formed Team SOMA

Brewers north of Market St. formed Team NOMA

They enlisted key ingredients from partners White Labs for yeast, and Brewers Supply Group for hops and grain.

They drafted specialty ingredients from fellow collaborator Whole Foods Market, specifically:

— yuzu from California’s Central Valley;
— chicory from Coke Farms in San Juan Bautista, CA;
— dry farmed organic wheat grown by Fritz Durst of Tule Farms, Capay Valley for Community Grains;
— organic sea salt from Allstar Organics, Nicasio, CA; and
— single-source, locally roasted coffee from Allegro Coffee Roasters.

Then they brewed.

(Well, some first peeled yuzu, then they brewed…)

Now, for SF Beer Week, these distinct brews have “taken the field,” and are available for you to try at these locations.

Taste the outcome, and — in the spirit of friendly competition and for charity — cast your vote as to your favorite SFBG collaboration beer.

A generous donation by Whole Foods Market means the winning team’s charity will received $4,000, and the runner up $1,000. Both Team SOMA’s charity, Rebuilding Together SF, and Team NOMA’s charity, La Cocina, do amazing work throughout the City all year long.

So, is your preference Team SOMA’s 100 Vara, a toasty chicory coffee porter, in step with the season?

Or Team NOMA’s Spring Training, a citrusy saison made with yuzu peel, sea salt and raw organic Patwin wheat, calling forth the promise of a bright spring?

Try the brews and vote here, or you can Tweet your favorite by using:

#SFBeerWeek #VoteNOMA

Votes will be collected throughout the week and the outcome announced this Friday.

With two collaboration beers this SF Beer Week, and two charities benefitting, everyone wins.
